Make your luau or outdoor party an absolute hit with these Hawaiian recipes from Recipezaar:

Recipezaar: Hawaiian recipes

Baby Greens With Pineapple Vinaigrette
This is from my 20 min meals cookbook. The theme of the dinner this comes from is "Wikiwiki Luau" and included crab cakes. YUM! -- posted by dicentra

Tropical Burger With Tropical Fruit Salsa
Four 1/4 pound all beef patties with Sweet Tropical BBQ Sauce, Tropical Fruit Salsa, and Pineapple Slices. Is easily doubled. -- posted by Chef MoonLight

Miso Dressing
This is from "Kathy Cooks" by Kathy Hoshijo. She used to have a natural cooking show on PBS in the 80's. My mom used to make this dressing when I was a kid- it is TOTALLY ADDICTIVE and will cause uncontrollable salad cravings! -- posted by jude503

Spam Musibi
This is Hawaiian Sushi! I went to Hawa'ii this summer. My friend down in Oahu taught me how to make this so you know this will be the best. Mahalo Pam! -- posted by The Happy Cook

Hawaiian Bubble Bread
This recipe came from Cooking Light’s 20th Anniversary issue, and was voted by staff as the Best Yeast Bread in the magazine in its 20 year history. “This irresistible sweet yeast bread is a staff favorite. Dough is shaped into balls – ‘bubbles’ – and layered into a tube pan.” Because it’s a yeast bread this recipe takes a bit of time, but it’s well worth it! Prep time includes time allowed for dough rising. -- posted by Julesong

Hawaiian Rice Ring
From Cooking Light Cookbook, 1989. Looks colorful in the photo and seems easy enough to make. I haven't tried it yet. Just sorting through a cookbook and copying what sounds good to me (and maybe to you too). -- posted by Oolala

Hawaiian Teriyaki Sauce
I love teriyaki, and here's a nice sauce in the Hawaiian style! -- posted by Julesong

Hawaiian Smoothie
Recipe courtesy Holly Rudin-Braschi. -- posted by Sandi (From CA)

Hawaiian Sweet Potato Salad
This sounds so good to me, with bacon, pineapple, Dijon mustard and macadamia nuts for some of the ingredients. Don't want to lose this from "Soup to Nuts." -- posted by Oolala

Curried Carrot Soup
This "dairyless" wonder is just what the doctor ordered. Brown rice and cauliflower thicken this favorite soup. -- posted by Chef #625570

Curried Chicken Salad With Mangoes and Cashews
We enjoyed this during the summer on croissants. -- posted by Chef PotPie

Hawaiian Chicken Kabobs
Easy to make - great tasting chicken kabobs for the grill. -- posted by Josh & Yetty

Hawaiian Sweet Potatoes
Thanksgiving favorite. -- posted by Bill From New Mexico

Pineapple Wasabi Aioli
Sweet, spicy & smooth. Great for grilled shrimp, chicken or seared ahi. You may want to adjust the amount of wasabi to your own spice level. I have also added a bit of crushed pineapple to the mix if running low on juice. -- posted by KauaiCarolAnn

Mirin Marinade
This is superb on ahi or scallops to be grilled and served either on a salad or as a main course. Try it with the Pineapple Wasabi Aioli for dipping. Yum! It is enough for 2 good sized ahi steaks (3/4 pound total)or about 1/2 pound large scallops. Reserve an ounce to use as a baste during the grilling process to avoid cross contamination. -- posted by KauaiCarolAnn

Lanai Baked Beans
During a family get-together in Hawaii one Christmas a couple of years ago, these beans were served to us by the caterer at a local luau on the island of Lanai and they were gracious enough to give me the recipe. I've changed the name to protect the guilty but I really have to say these are great beans. -- posted by Celticevergreen

Malibu - Piña Colada
Grab a deck chair, sit back and relax. -- posted by Stardustannie

Hawaiian Bread , Abm
I have not made this but it sounds like a yumm winner. Baking time is however long it takes your machine -- posted by Annacia

Hawaiian Teriyaki Marinade
Our family's favorite marinade for beef, chicken, or pork. -- posted by Lisa J.S.

Hawaiian Chicken
This is a wonderful chicken dish. Best served over rice. Serves about 4-6. -- posted by -------

Low-Fat Coconut Cream (Or Milk) Substitute
I used Recipe #113203 and the standard substitution for coconut cream to come up with this. I tried this recipe out in Recipe #274534 and Recipe #274527 with good results. -- posted by Nyteglori

Fried Chicken Hawaiian-Style
The original recipe calls for chicken drumettes but I use skinless, and boneless thighs or breast tenders. Good to take on picnics and eaten with rice balls (musubi) since it's good cold as well as hot. -- posted by MasakoHI

Watermelon Mai Tai
To make this drink suitable for non drinkers, omit alcohol and increase the pineapple juice to 1 cup. I like to add the ice to the blender also..n drink it like a slushy. -- posted by Stardustannie

Farm-Fresh Strawberry Ice or Slush
Very light and easy summer-time treat. Great way to use those luscious ripe summer-gems, without heating up the whole kitchen at the same time! -- posted by Debber

Mahi Mahi With Brown-Sugar Soy Glaze
So easy to make! This glaze also works on other fish like halibut. The recipe is from Gourmet Magazine (Oct. 05). -- posted by blucoat

Sonoma Valley Mashed Yams
My boyfriend hates sweet potatoes. It's been rainy here forever, so I decided to get creative one night, serving these as a side dish for us and our three kids, with a lovely salmon with shiitake ragout and pesto capellini with pomegranate spritzers on the side. It's a little sweet, a lot rich, simple to prepare, and totally delicious. There were no left overs and he has a new view on yams or sweet potatos or whatever the heck people call them in the rest of the country! -- posted by Chef #740736

Mauna Kea Chicken Legs
I made this up with the Big Island in mind! I hope you like it! -- posted by Chef*Lee

Hawaiian Roast Beef
This was an experiment that went right... with a very pleasantly surprising taste taste. Being Jewish I don't eat pork, but I wanted to try to simulate a Hawaiian dish for an evening meal. Make sure you have the time for this one!!! -- posted by Abba Gimel

Pineapple, Papaya & Mango Salsa
Obviously sweet because of the fruit but a slight hint of heat because of the pepper. We love this on grilled ahi, steamed ulua or aweoweo. My other half even put it on scrambled eggs (not so sure about this one). I worked out this recipe after several failed attempts. We are blessed to live in Hawaii where fresh-off-the-tree fruit and great pineapples are easy to find, but try it anyway. Enjoy! -- posted by KauaiCarolAnn

Island Tacos
Flour tortillas stuffed with marinated chicken, teriyaki sauce, jack cheese, pineapple, lettuce, tomatoes & scallions. -- posted by bigwolverine

Hawaiian Chili
This is a great alternative to a traditional chili. It is especially great for Spring and Summer as it is much lighter and a bit sweet and spicy. It is very easy to make and can even be done on a camping trip as the ingredients (except for the cheese and bread) are all canned or dry. I actually dreamed about this recipe, woke up the next day and wrote it down. I have never found a similar chili so I consider this a one of a kind creation. I love it for lunch or supper, especially with a slice of swiss cheese melted on top and slice of buttered french bread. It is even better the second day as all the flavors get a chance to meld together. -- posted by clownes

Baked Chicken With Pineapples and Mushrooms
I was in a bit of tropical mood, but we don't like our chicken sweet, so I created this recipe, and it was a huge hit! -- posted by AniSarit

Marlin & Pineapple Kabobs
Yummy, Fresh, Low-Cal -- posted by Chef #795613

Heart Stopping Fried Rice
This is my hubby's recipe and tastes amazing! I must say though that the large amount of bacon was quite alarming when I first saw him make this, but our family enjoys this dish a lot. We try not to make it too frequently but it is a hard habit to break. Day old rice works best but fresh rice right out of our rice cooker has been successful many times. He was taught how to cook this style of fried rice while in Hawaii. -- posted by Slatts

Soyu Chicken Hawaiian Style
This recipe came from a coworker's mom who lives in Hawaii. It is easy to make and goes well with white rice. Aloha. -- posted by Slatts

Aloha Cole Slaw
Called Holly's Cole Slaw in Pingry Cooks and was submitted by Bunny Raabe. It sounds Hawaiian to me with raisins and pineapple. Prebagged shredded cole slaw helps cut down on prep time. I guessed can ounces since the recipe just said "a can" for the pineapple tidbits. -- posted by Oolala

Kona Barbecued Chicken
A different barbecued chicken recipe from Hawaii. If you don't have Kona coffee, you can use any strong brewed coffee. If you are buying Kona coffee, don't buy a Kona blend as there is little Kona coffee in a blend. -- posted by Lvs2Cook

Pineapple Mango Tango Scallops Skewers
Posted for the May 2008 "Let's Get Skewered" Game in the Asian Forum. This Grand Prize winner of Robert Mondavi's 3rd Annual Art of the Skewer Recipe Contest was created by Pat Neaves. The cook time includes the 15 minutes for marinating. -- posted by ~Jen~

Alton Brown's Coconut Milk & Cream
I remember watching this on an Alton Brown show, on Food Network awhile ago, and after not really being able to find a good coconut milk/cream recipe on Zaar I decided to post this. I'm just making it today, so I have my fingers crossed! -- posted by Houdini's Mom

Sesame Cabbage Salad
I'm not sure where she got this from, but I was given this Hawaiian recipe to make for a luau today. It came out fantastic! This recipe make A LOT of salad, so I recommend cutting it by at least a half unless you're planning on feeding a lot of people. According to the recipe, it's best served the same day. Any longer than that and the ramen gets soggy. Also, it didn't have enough dressing, so I'd increase the amount of oil and vinegar. For the peppers, I used red bell peppers to offset the overwhelming amount of green in the salad ;) Last but not least, I grabbed the wrong kind of ramen and got the oven-roasted chicken kind but it was still awesome! -- posted by RedheadAblaze

Hawaiian Chicken
The chicken breasts can be kept whole or cut in bite size chunks like a stir-fry. Note: Cooking time with depend on size of chicken. -- posted by Shahana

Banana Split Stir-Fry
Interesting and Yummy- sounding recipe I derived from the local newspaper.Could be a delicious and decadent recipe to serve to dinner guests you want to impress! -- posted by Boyz 5

Hawaiian Korean Kal Bi Marinade
Original recipe given to me by Hawaiians. Best for grilling pork or beef ribs and even chicken, just stick to 4-5 pounds. Can be halved for smaller amounts of meat or doubled for feeding a crowd. Better than the old red barbecue sauce! -- posted by BIG_CHIEF

Korean Pupu Chicken
Great little appetizers! Easy. Got this from a Hawaiian friend of mine. Be sure to make plenty, they go fast! Serve hot, warm or at room temperature. Can also be made with whole wings or thighs cut into bite-size pieces. I flour my chicken in a ziplock or paper bag for easy clean-up. An electric frying pan or two work great for these. -- posted by BIG_CHIEF

Lemon Delicious
On a quest to find the recipe I used to make years ago and the DH asked to make this one from Super Food Ideas July 2008, even though I knew it wasn't IT but he really enjoyed it and thought it was great, so I am posting but will continue my quest to find IT. -- posted by I'mPat

Easy Pineapple Couscous
Couscous side dish that is easy to make and kid friendly. It goes great with any seafood dish and would be excellent served with Teryaki Chicken. I served with Grilled Tuna Steaks and steamed green beans. Use leftovers as a healthy mid-day snack :-) -- posted by BFit4U

Asian Style Barbecue Pork Loin Sirloin Chops
This sauce is great on pork or chicken and makes a healthier marinade for great tastiing Korean Barbecue! My husband is asian and was born in Hawaii and this is a favorite local dish. Amazing flavor!! -- posted by Chef #892698

Aloha Wings

Barbecued Island Chicken
Moist, easy and full of summer flavors! A great recipe that will remind you a breezy night on a tropical island. This recipe is loved by all ages as it is savory yet sweet from the pineapple juice and has an almost caramel flavor from the brown sugar. Preparation time includes allowing chicken to marinate. Stevia can replace brown sugar but I do not have the correct amount needed for this. Also please note that the fat and calorie count is incorrect as you discard most of the marinade. Enjoy! -- posted by sassafrasnanc

Turkey Burgers With Flavor
I haven't tried to cook with ground turkey for ten years. I never liked it before. Since it is so healthy and low in fat I tried to infuse the turkey with flavor and this recipe did the trick. The consistency is much improved too. If you like cilantro and mango flavors, you will love these delicious burgers. So easy to make and can be made a day ahead. -- posted by carmel housewife

Ono Chicken Wings
I got this recipe from a friend in Hawaii. Ono means good in Hawaiian and these are very good. Make sure that they marinate over night to let the flavors develop. -- posted by lazyme

Hawaiian Chicken Wings
I've not made these myself yet, but a friend served them to us and they were very good. Plan ahead as these need to marinate for 24 hours for the flavors to meld. -- posted by lazyme

Earon's Hawaiian Plate Lunch Salad
Named in honor of my brother-in-law Earon, a native Hawaiian, who LOVES macaroni salad. He turned me on to it a few years back, and now I'm addicted too! This is my version, tweaked with some ranch dressing mix to pop the flavor just a bit. I like it simple, but feel free to add peas or celery or whatever else you like! -- posted by puppitypup

Kalua Pig in a Slow Cooker
Adapted from a recipe by Kikuchan at allrecipes.com. I'm told this is the commonest way to make this, even in Hawaii. Do try to get the Hawaiian salt; it adds a subtle flavor that will be missing with plain sea salt. You can often find it at high-end specialty stores like Trader Joe's, Whole Foods or Williams-Sonoma. Be sure to get a roast which has not been "injected with a salt solution" - it will make your dish terribly salty. If you use a smaller piece of meat, be sure to scale down the salt, the liquid smoke, and the cooking time! -- posted by DrGaellon

Lomi Lomi
Adapted from a recipe by Saxony at allrecipes.com. If the salmon is salty enough on its own, skip the sea salt. Use cayenne or black pepper, not both. -- posted by DrGaellon

Hawaiian Turtle Cups
A twist on the classic turtle candies. I love white chocolate and nuts. Yum! Recipe came from Simple & Delicious magazine. Cook time includes chill time. -- posted by Sassy in da South

Hawaiian Glazed Veggies Stir-Fry
The combo of vegetables and pineapple in this easy stir-fry makes for a colorful sweet-and-sour dish. Fresh pineapple is best in this recipe; canned just doesn't taste as good. Adapted from Delicious Living magazine. -- posted by Sharon123

Joanne's Hawaiian Chicken
Throughout the years my husband has reminisced about a Hawaiian chicken recipe his mother would prepare for the family when he was a youngster. I finally was able to get the recipe recently from my mother in law (thank you MIL!) and prepared the dish for him as a surprise. I didn't want to tamper with a family classic too much, therefore very little has been changed from the original recipe. Serve this dish with plain hot cooked white rice. Recipe from an old church cookbook. Posted for my husband, with all my love. -- posted by Cookgirl

Spam Polynesian Yum Yum
A nifty recipe for Spam fans from that website. Serve over chow mein noodles and/or rice. -- posted by Molly53

Seared Tuna With Green Onion-Wasabi Sauce
This is one of our favorite ways to have fresh ahi. I usually add a little more wasabi - but then we love that stuff, lol. I also cook it less time than recommended here because we like it that way and I usually add some sesame seeds as garnish. -- posted by lazyme

Kalakaua Royal Crown Pork Roast
This recipe is named in honor of King Kalakaua of Hawaii when Hawaii was a Kingdom and not a state. He was a lover of good food and I think he would have enjoyed this crown roast of pork. This recipe comes from a really old cookbook, dated 1901, so it has been around in this form for a long time. I hope everyone will enjoy it. It has been modified for todays kitchens.
