Chicken Bacon Swiss Braid
Someone brought this to a holiday party and everyone loved it, including me. She gave out the recipe and this is it. -- posted by Lainey6605

Poinsettia Blossom Cookies
I combined a couple of recipes to come up with this one after being inspired by cookies I saw on the cover of a magazine. The dough tends to be a bit sticky, so make sure your knife is sharp when cutting the petals; you may need to spray it with non-stick cooking spray as well. We like these cookies made with black cherry or cherry Jell-O. The additional food coloring makes the color a bit more vivid. Use red paste food coloring for a really bright presentation. These cookies would also be cute for Easter, by using lemon, lime or orange-flavored Jell-O. -- posted by doobtones #2

Zucchini, Potato and Herb Fritters
Adapted from a recipe in 'The Australian Women's Weekly's TAPAS antipasto mezze'. Be vigilant about squeezing all the liquid from the vegetables and, after thoroughly squeezing out the liquid, pat the vegetables (except the garlic which is likely to stick to the paper!) with paper kitchen towelling. This is a recipe where it's a good idea to have all your ingredients ready before grating the vegetables and grating the potatoes last so they have less time to turn brown! The weights indicated are approximate so the following approximate weight equivalents should give you an idea of the general amount required: 410g = 13oz; 375g = 120z; 75g = 21/2 oz. The number of fritters you get will depend on what size you make them; the number that the fritters will serve will, of course, depend on how many appetisers or other dishes you are serving as part of an antipasto mezze platter. -- posted by bluemoon downunder

Holiday Fruit Preserve
I saw Anna Olson do this on CityLine and had to give it a try. I think I have the spices down correct. It's what I used, anyway. The final product is so pretty in the jars! Perfect for gift giving! -- posted by Nymphadora Tonks

Party Shrimp
This is a great appetizer for a cocktail party or small get together. -- posted by GotBoxer?

Turkey Pizza
Fresh! Healthy! With a hint of lime and chilli or fresh mint and cranberry; your choice. Make sure you use mozzerella cheese so that the pizza will come out of the oven dry and delecious not soggy and greasy. -- posted by Tigg

Chicken Corn Chowder
This is a recipe that was passed down from my dad's side of the family. We have it every Christmas. It is so delicious and it makes the house smell absolutely wonderful. I, personally, don't prefer mushrooms. Once, I made it without the mushrooms, but added 2 small cans of sliced potatoes. I was extremely pleased with it. However, the rest of my family prefers the mushrooms and insisted they were necessary. -- posted by zoegirl21

'tis the Season Coconut Macaroons
My mom made these and put them on her Christmas cookie trays...very good! -- posted by mydesigirl

Green Beans With Pearl Onions
This is a favorite side dish to roasted turkey breast at our house. I hope that you enjoy them as well! -- posted by mydesigirl

Dk's Swedish Glögg
My Dad's recipe that he made EVERY year. A potent version of the traditional Swedish Christmas drink. Just breathing it in will clear the sinuses. -- posted by TrebleChef

Super Easy Italian Pignoli Nut Cookies (Uses Cookie Mix)
This is a Prize-Winning 2008 Recipe from Betty Crocker. They are relatively easy to make as a pouch of Betty Crocker cookie mix is used. I must say that I use the almond paste in the 8oz. can, never the tube, and it must be "almond paste" not marzipan for best results. I also use my Kitchen-Aid stand mixer, dump in all of the ingredients except the nuts & within minutes the dough is ready to go. These are great around the Holidays and since they are so expensive in bakeries, nice to make at home. Some people like to sprinkle these with powedered sugar after they come out of oven, which is fine, just not my preference... Note: Prep. time includes rolling into balls of dough & coating with nuts - I prep. a 2nd tray while one is cooking then prep. out the rest & set them aside on waxed paper so they are all ready to go. -- posted by BlondieItaliana

Cucumber-Olive Appetizers
If you wanted to go the extra step peel, finely chop or coarsely grate half a cucumber, hand squeeze out all the moisture then add in some to the cream cheese mixture --- these are easy to make and delicious, for some heat add in a pinch of cayenne pepper if desired --- if you are serving a large group of people I suggest to double the recipe, the bread slices may be lightly toasted if desired ---serving is only estimated. -- posted by KITTENCAL

Sugar-Topped Molasses Spice Cookies
These are big, crisp, and slightly crackled cookies, with as much or as little kick as you want (depending on how much pepper you add). The sugar topping makes for a lovely presentation and a great texture contrast. From one of my favourite cookbooks, "Baking: From My Home to Yours", by Dorie Greenspan. These cookies keep well. (Dough must be chilled for at least 30 minutes in the freezer.) -- posted by blucoat

Swedish Spritz Cookies
For these you will need a cookie press. The Spritz Cookie Press works a lot like a Play-Doh toy, and usually comes with an assortment of round disc templates for squirting out stars, hearts, pinwheels, shamrocks, Christmas trees, deco braid, and camels (watch out, they spit!) One cookie press we have found that works well is the Classic Cookie Professional Cookie Press by VillaWare. -- posted by AB_Fan

Cherry Crisp - from Scratch!
There are many crisp recipes on the site, but I didn't find one quite like this one. There are no cans of cherry pie filling here. Yes, you too can make a cherry crisp from scratch, using real cherries! You could use this filling for many other things like ice cream topping, or Toast-tites on the campfire! Yummy! -- posted by Jess4Freedom

Orange Chocolate Snickerdoodles
This is my take on snickerdoodles. My husbands favorite flavors are orange and chocolate so I made these as an experiment and he loved them, so much so one night he ate 30 of them, yes 30! -- posted by Homegrown a.k.a. Nrsrchd

Holly Christmas Cookies
This is a very easy, no-bake Christmas cookie recipe. It makes a festive addition to a Christmas cookie assortment. This recipe was originally my Grandmother's and I hope you enjoy. These cookies always bring back fond memories for me of spending Christmas at Grandma's. -- posted by Northern Cook

Grandma's Molasses Crinkles
This is another one of my Grandma's cookie recipes. She'd serve these along with an assortment of other cookies at Christmas. -- posted by Northern Cook

Scalloped Pineapple Casserole
This recipe was given to me from a friend of mine. The ingredients may sound a little different, but it is really good and easy to make. We make this for holiday dinners such as Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. We don't like pineapple on the ham, but love this as the side dish to go with our ham. -- posted by iluzen

Perfect Christmas Turkey
This recipe is from Better Homes And Gardens, I plan on making it this year for Christmas. -- posted by Sara 76

Lemony Glazed Sweet Potatoes
This is mom's alternative to the traditional sweet potatoes usually served at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I love the pairing of the lemon and spuds, but would personally cut back the sugar a bit, perhaps 1/4 cup of one or the other. (But I don't like candied yams at all.) -- posted by justcallmetoni

Classic Italian Almond Biscotti
This is a fool-proof, basic recipe for traditional biscotti from Susan Rosso's mother. Rather than baking the cookies twice, place the sliced cookies inside a warm oven for 30 to 60 minutes. This renders the biscotti satisfyingly firm rather than jaw-breakingly hard. (Susan Rosso has a great site called Food Blogga.) -- posted by blucoat

Coconut Orange Balls
This is another cookie recipe that was my Grandmother's. She often served these around the holidays. These cookies always bring back very special memories of my Grandmother and spending holidays at her house. It is a quick and easy recipe to follow. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do . . . -- posted by Northern Cook

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies
These are crisp on the surface with a soft and gooey centre. These are great for the holiday season as the white powdered sugar contrasts dramatically with the deep brown chocolate crevices and they look as though they are covered in snow. The recipe is from "Bakewise: The Hows and Whys of Successful Baking" by Shirley Corriher. These are Shirley's favourite cookies! She is a food scientist (as well as a cook) thus her recipes are very reliable. The dough needs to be refrigerated for a few hours or overnight. Makes 3 to 5 dozen, depending on size. -- posted by blucoat

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chippers
This is a recipe that I found in a book that my step son gave to me for a Christmas present (Santa's Favorite Cookies) -- posted by psyko4cats

Candy Cane Bark
This candy is so simple to make that the kids can help out -- and it makes a great party favor or stocking stuffer. Cook time is chill time. -- posted by Annacia

Bacon & Ricotta Stuffing
This is from Family Circle's, The Tastes Of Christmas cookbook. It goes well with turkey and pork. -- posted by Sara 76

Weight Watchers Classic Sugar Cookies - Points = 1
From the Weight Watchers Website: "No party is complete without holiday sugar cookies. Use different shaped cookie cutters and colored sugars to create a variety of designs." -- posted by senseicheryl

Scrummy Chestnut Stuffing
This is Mum's recipe - not sure where she got it from, but it's a staple for Christmas/Easter dinner, and there would be outrage if she didn't do it. Hubby'd never had stuffing before his first Xmas with us, and now it's the one thing that excites him most about the festive season! You can cook it in the turkey if you want, but for the richest taste, best just served up 'loose' in a bowl. -- posted by Rachel C

Sausage-Stuffed Mushrooms
I make these as an appetizer for our Christmas Eve dinner. There is a rich Parmesan flavor. Recipe is from Taste of Home. -- posted by Lainey6605

Aunt Fran's Polish Kolaezki
These were a big favorite growing up in Chicago. When I moved "up north" to Wisconsin I discovered that here kolache were made with a raised dough. These are more of a sugar cookie or shortbread base. -- posted by Linky

Chocolate Cranberry Bars
These bars are so good! They are really easy to make, too. Make the topping while the base is baking to save yourselves some time. -- posted by Irmgard

Ritz Cracker Cookies - No Bake - Candy Coated
I've been making these for years now. Everyone always loves them. They are super easy. I know there are a few other recipes out there for these cookies - most use almond or candy bark... these use the "candy melt wafer discs" from craft stores, candy shops, or Walmart Craft Dept., I also microwave the candy melts instead of using a double boiler. Plus, these candy melts come in many colors to suit your needs - think pink candy melts with pink M&M's for October Breast Cancer Awareness, white on white for Bridal Showers... They are so pretty for the Holidays - you can decorate these with any color sprinkles, candy M&M's, I've even used Hershey's Hugs mini-morsels.. the possibilites are endless, just make to suit your occasion... great with bright sprinkles for birthdays, or pastel M&M's for Easter, etc. - have fun! Also good for bridal or baby shower take-home goodie bags. Note: I always use the MINI M&M over the regular size just not to overpower the cracker flavors... just an FYI... -- posted by BlondieItaliana

Upstairs Apple Pie
I have been slowly modifying this recipe since it was passed on to me by my grandmother. It is baked inside a paper bag at 425°, so an accurate oven temperature is essential (the combustion temperature of paper is Fahrenheit-451, hence the book title). The result is that during the baking process, your downstairs may smell of burning paper, but upstairs will smell like warm apple pie. -- posted by Lafcadio

Crispy Oat Drops
I made this for the first time the other day for Christmas and it is another recipe out of "Santas Favorite Cookies" I looked on this site for it and did not find any like this one. -- posted by psyko4cats

Hg's Pumpkin-Licious Nog! - Ww Points = 2
This recipe was featured in an email today from Hungry Girl: "Nog Heaven! There are just two short days 'til Christmas, people, so NOG IT UP! Our Pumpkin-licious Nog is creamy, delicious, and (duh) guilt-free. Even if you don't like eggnog, chances are you'll LOVE this stuff. And if you want to make an alcoholic version of this drink, nix the rum extract and add 5 oz. rum to the recipe. Each serving of the spiked stuff has 174 calories and a POINTS. value of 3*. Break out that blender!" -- posted by senseicheryl

Sweet Rich Shortcrust Pastry
I always use this pastry with my luxury mincemeat for my Christmas mince pies. -- posted by Lou van

No-Cook Snowballs
With all the Snowball recipes on here, I was shocked to see that this one wasn't. This is a super quick and easy recipe that even the youngest child can help with (our 2 yr old neighbor had a grand time)! The perfect Christmas treat! This recipe came from one of the many Gooseberry Patch cookbooks. -- posted by AngelaTN

Citrus Sugar Cookie Dough
I love these sugar cookies for the wonderful combination of orange and lemon. The dough can be a bit tender. I will advise to use floured parchment paper to roll out the dough and cut cookies. Remove the scraps so you don't have to move the cookies. -- posted by jane's girls

Stained Glass Cookie Recipe
This recipe comes from Reader's Digest. -- posted by jane's girls

Vegan Gingerbread Cut-Out Cookies
This egg-free and dairy-free recipe for a chewy gingerbread cookie is from Sarah Kramer's cookbook, "La Dolce Vegan!" (2005) and reprinted in today's local paper. For vegan frosting, use five parts icing sugar to one part water, blending until thick. or you can use chocolate peanut butter spread. Dough must chill for 2-4 hours. (While baking the first batch, return the dough to the fridge to chill it so dough doesn't stick to the rolling pin. Allow cookie sheet to cool before reusing.) -- posted by blucoat

Peppermint Bark
This is a copycat of the William Sonoma Bark that costs $22 a lb. I have never tried their version, but when my mom told me she liked it, I went on a search to find the recipe. Make sure to buy white chocolate chips that contain coco butter to get a smooth melt- otherwise, you will end up with clumpy chocolate. Use good quality chocolate chips (belgian, semi-sweet, or bittersweet) for the best results. This recipe is so simple and delicious my only hope is that I'm able to save a piece for my mom. Recipe by Rita Nader Heikenfeld. -- posted by cookiedog

Fatal Fudge
I got this recipe years ago from the Wayne Brady show for Fudge Fatale. Be very careful when making this recipe. The emulsion you create can splatter and burn as it’s cooking, so use caution. This recipe is anything but foolproof . It can easily be ruined by cooking too hot or too long. You should buy enough ingredients to make it several times because it takes practice to get it right. -- posted by Amy BC

Pierogies
This is my Grandmother's recipe for Pierogies. We've been making them every Christmas for as long as I can remember. -- posted by Chef #962677

Baked Diver's Scallops
Lightly breaded jumbo diver's scallops baked in a terrific lemon garlic butter sauce! -- posted by BecR

Cheryl's Swirled Christmas Cookies
I made these cookies today for my hubby to bring to work with him. Yes, that's right...he has to work on Christmas Day! Bah Humbug! Note: The prep time listed includes the time to refrigerate the dough before baking. -- posted by senseicheryl

Christmas Brisket
Much to my surprise and delight, my family has decided to try and have something different for Christmas. When I asked my brother what to make instead of the traditional ham, he suggested brisket, a cut of meat I'd never cooked before. (I was thinking roast beef, but when you get the ball, you have to run with it.) After reading lots of recipes and boggled by the options, I decided to blend them into this recipe. Made in a Crock Pot, it doesn't get any easier and the results are melt-in-your-mouth tender. -- posted by justcallmetoni

Mashed Potatoes W/ Green Onions & Parmesan
This is a fantastic recipe that is very easy to make. The green onions make ordinary mashed potatoes exceptional. I like to make these on a weeknight when I am pressed for time and everyone tells me they're fantastic. -- posted by Chef #308552

Panko Breaded Pork Chops With Redeye Coffee Gravy
David Chang presents Panko pan fried pork chops with a redeye gravy that includes Instant coffee grounds! I tried it. It's amazing/savory and it's very modern/chic right now. From Mark Bittman's PBS show, "The Best Recipes In The World". Fusion food YUM! Anyway, this is a fancy, fun, very man-friendly dish. It's a little different but hey, for the adventurous it's awesome. Here's what Bittman had to say: "Who better to spread the gospel of pork than David Chang of New York's Momofuku? He adds pork to almost every one of his vegetarian-unfriendly dishes, because, as he'll tell you, it just makes things taste better. This dish is an enormously successful example of fusion cuisine—essentially, pork katsu with a Southern twist. David's redeye gravy, however, is not made like the kind you'd find in Southern diners. Instead of combining country-ham drippings with hot coffee, he makes what amounts to a mayonnaise spiked with instant granules." Prep and cook time is 45 min. enjoyment lasts forever. -- posted by Dangerous Curves

Amy's Yummy Chocolate Chip Cookies
My daughter and I were making cookies the other day and she said, "my friend Amy and I made cookies the other day and they were really yummy." I said, "and where's the recipe?" Voila, it was in my inbox this morning. Thank you Amy and Lyndsay. :-) -- posted by senseicheryl

Day After Christmas Cranberry & Nut Breakfast
This would be yummy for any day but it is Christmas inspired because I made it on Boxing Day morning out of leftovers I had floating around from Christmas day. Plus, after eating so much the day before it was kind of nice to start the next day with a healthy breakfast. If you use Splenda instead of sugar this is pretty diabetic friendly too. -- posted by Sarah_Jayne

Apple, Dried Cherry, and Pecan Salad With Maple Dressing
Adapted from recipe from Mountain Town Station Brewing Company and Steakhouse in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Original recipe published in Bon Appetit, September 2002. Great salad for the holidays. Very easy but impressive. Dried cranberries can be substituted for the dried cherries. Also good with glazed or spiced pecans. Pears would also be good in place of apples. For a less creamy dressing, reduce or elimate sour cream and increase vinegar and oil. -- posted by swissms

Oh so Creamy Sweet Potato (Or Yam)
this is the creamiest yummiest pureed sweet potato you have ever eaten. you will need a blender/beater/food processor of some sort to make it. -- posted by Einas

Raspberry Coconut Trifle
This recipe was supposed to be a cake, but after slicing my finger trying to cut the cake into three layers, I said to heck with this! The cake was turned into a more traditional trifle. We had it for dessert at Christmas dinner and it was a huge hit! Just one word of advice: Start this dessert the day before as it takes quite a while for the custard to thicken. I am including the chilling time in the cooking time. -- posted by Irmgard

Darn Good Mashed Taters!
This recipe was featured in an email this morning from the www.recipe4living.com website. Submitted by barcogifts - "I love making my mashed potatoes for company. They always tell me they are the best mashed potatoes they have ever had! I know, these are not healthy but they are worth the splurge! I hope you enjoy them too!" -- posted by senseicheryl

Chocolate Orange Cheesecake With Orange-Tangerine Glaze
I love the combination of chocolate and orange and they unite wonderfully in this recipe. We usually make this for Christmas but it would be good anytime of the year. If you cannot find orange and tangerine marmalade, substitute orange marmalade. I like to drizzle chocolate ganache over the marmalade glaze which creates a beautiful presentation. Make the cheesecake 1-2 days in advance to allow the flavors to bloom. From Gourmet magazine, January 1995. -- posted by swissms

Eggnog
My sister got this recipe from one of her neighbors a few years ago and every year she loses it. Posting so we will not lose this one - it is one awesome recipe for Eggnog. Chill time is not included in prep/cook time. -- posted by CindiJ

Orange, Spiced Walnut and Dried Cranberry Salad

I have listed the cereal as optional if you like a bit of a crunch then add it in, you can make these any size that you like so the servings is only estimated, these make a great candy to serve on a tray, for a nice presentation place the eggs into paper muffin liners, after the chocolate is hard drizzle/decorate with colored icing from my recipe#261889 --- don't wait for easter to make these they are great at anytime--- these are very good! -- posted by KITTENCAL

Scandinavian Almond Cake
I got this recipe when I bought a cool looking pan. It's meant to go in there, but would work just as well in a loaf pan. This cake is very almondy and moist! -- posted by Chef #1051101

Chocolate-Gingersnap Bourbon Balls
Best when aged for 2-3 days when the flavors have had a chance to develop. Will keep several weeks stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Great for the holidays. -- posted by littleturtle

Festive Terrine
I adapted this recipe from the December issue of the excellent Australian Delicious Magazine. I added some duck leg-meat, as it was on hand, and this was a great addition. I omitted the garlic from the original recipe, as I felt it would overpower the other flavours. The original recipe also included 1/2 cup brandy - I didn't have any so didn't add it - instead I added the juices of the duck, which had been roasted in honey and allspice. It was simple to make, and had a beautiful presentation and flavour. Serve cold, accompanied by a fruit relish - I used a cherry relish as it was served for Christmas lunch. You could use rasher bacon as a substitute for prosciutto to line the terrine - the prosciutto was a leaner option, and about the right size to wrap the terrine. -- posted by ChrisWells

Date Nut Dream Bars
There are many variations of this recipe and I have tried several. This is the one I like best. It is a very versatile recipe because you may substitute whatever dried fruits or nuts you have on hand for what the recipe calls for. The base is a delicious, buttery shortbread and I love the butter icing. Store these in the fridge so that the icing stays firm. -- posted by Irmgard

Better Than Aunt Patti's Cornbread Dressing
My Aunt Patti has been the designated cornbread dressing maker in my family for as long as I can remember. I was unable to attend Thanksgiving at her home this year so I set out on a mission to make my own dressing... it is my favorite dish at our holiday meals. The first attempt was darn good, but it needed more moisture and more sage. I thought the second attempt was just right and tasted like hers. But on the third attempt I micro'd the vegetables because all of my burners were in use. JACKPOT! It was an accidental discovery but the vegetables cook faster in the microwave plus the resulting flavorful broth sent the dish over the top. I'm very proud of this recipe. Aunt Patti would be heartbroken, however. So unfortunately, I'm gonna have to keep this a secret from my family. But I am thrilled to share this recipe with you. But please don't tell Aunt Patti. -- posted by Pot Scrubber
